Palace win and lose in FC Augsburg friendly
Crystal Palace recorded a victory and a defeat in their double-header pre-season friendly against Bundesliga side FC Augsburg in Oliver Glasner fielded different starting XIs for the two 90-minute fixtures, the first of which breezed to a 3-1 victory and the second of which struggled in a 1-0 first starting line-up featured plenty of experienced first-team players, with Jean-Philippe Mateta grabbing a brace to continue his pre-season goalscoring form and attacking partner Eberechi Eze also featuring on the second starting line-up saw a number of academy prospects handed minutes, including a senior debut for centre-back Luke Browne, alongside senior figures such as Will Hughes, Jefferson Lerma and Odsonne Eagles will now turn their attention to the Community Shield on 10 August (15:00 BST), as Liverpool lie in wait at Wembley Stadium.

(AP Photo/Martin Meissner, File) MUNICH (AP) — Bayer Leverkusen midfielder Florian Wirtz seemingly denied a report that he requested the No. 10 shirt at Liverpool as part of talks over a potentially record-breaking transfer. In rare public comments from the player whose fee could break the English Premier League record, Wirtz responded to a report from broadcaster Sky Germany on Tuesday that he would like to keep wearing No. 10 if he moves to Liverpool. Advertisement That number was worn this season by midfielder Alexis Mac Allister, a World Cup winner with Argentina, and is a storied shirt at Liverpool. Previous players to wear the No. 10 include club greats like John Barnes, Michael Owen, Philippe Coutinho and Sadio Mané. 'Who says I want the 10," Wirtz wrote on Instagram late Tuesday, "I respect players." 'Don't believe everything what's written,' he added with a clown emoji. The Bayer Leverkusen attacking midfielder is reportedly nearing a move to Premier League champion Liverpool after turning down interest from Bayern Munich. Liverpool has already signed his Leverkusen teammate Jeremie Frimpong, a Dutch right back. Advertisement Any agreement for Wirtz could break the British record of 106.7 million pounds (then $131.4 million) that Chelsea agreed to pay Benfica for Enzo Fernández in early 2023. Bayer Leverkusen's Jonas Hofmann linked with Augsburg switch
Bundesliga outfit FC Augsburg – having already made an ambitious move in installing Sandro Wagner as their new head coach – may be set to make an ambitious splash in the summer transfer market. Sky Germany reports that the Fuggerstädter are targeting disaffected Bayer Leverkusen attacker Jonas Hofmann. The versatile Hofmann – with an estimated market value of €3m – could constitute quite the steal for the FCA. The Sky report does note that the 32-year-old is exciting about potentially improving his playing prospects under newly appointed B04 head coach Erik ten Hag. A chance to work under Wagner may nevertheless serve as another promising avenue for the 23-times-capped German international. Hofmann can hope for regular playing time in Wagner's team. Advertisement Augsburg opted to sack both head coach Jess Thorup and sporting director Marinko Jurendic despite what had been a largely successful season. Thorup helped Augsburg secure Bundesliga safety at the earliest stage of any of their 14 top flight campaigns. In the end, however, the fact that the team faded out of the race for Europe led club management to opt for a change. Wagner's rumored appointment was made official with much fanfare yesterday. Augsburg's decision to install the 37-year-old former German national team assistant received plenty of praise in the German press. Personnel-wise, the FCA front office has already made some moves ahead of next season. Four departures have been confirmed. Additionally, the rumored permanent signing of highly effective central defender Cedric Zesiger has been confirmed. Augsburg signed the Swiss international away from Wolfsburg for a reported €4m fee. Leverkusen coach Alonso says he will leave club, no word on Madrid

"This week the club and I, we have agreed that these two games are going to be my last two games as Bayer Leverkusen coach," he told a news conference on Friday. Advertisement The Spaniard has been heavily linked in the media with a move to Real Madrid but did not comment on the speculation. Real coach Carlo Ancelotti's position is unclear. Alonso won a league and cup double in Germany last season without losing a match but lost the Bundesliga title to Bayern Munich last weekend. Leverkusen host Borussia Dortmund on Sunday and finish the league season on May 17 at Mainz.
